Literacy: This week in Literacy we will learn how to use adverbs in our writing to describe when, where, how, and why. We will also begin reading our new Power of Reading book, Varjak Paw. Varjak Paw is a Mesopotamian Blue kitten. He's never left his home, until his grandfather tells him about the Way--a secret martial arts for cats. Varjak must use the Way to survive in a city full of dangerous dogs, cat gangs, and strangest of all, the mysterious Vanishings. As we read, we will continue working on various reading strategies to deepen our understanding of the text.
IPC: This week in IPC we will learn about the various harvest festivals around the world and about how foods are similar and different in our host and home countries. We will become food writers while demonstrating this knowledge while writing a comparing and contrasting article about food!
Spelling: This week in spelling we will learn how to spell words with the -al and -el suffix along with several academic vocabulary words. Three practice assignments have been set. Once you login, you will see a green and blue box that says "Assignments Due". This week they are "Sentence Writing Practice", "Audio Word Match", and "WhichWord Definitions." This round of spelling is due on Friday, February 27th.

Because you can write your sentences online, you no longer need to keep a spelling journal unless you still want to practice your words this way. Please let me know if you have trouble logging in so that I can help you at school.

SEOLLAL EVENT
안녕하세요! Anneonghaseyo!
As a part of experiencing Korean culture, the Korean department is hosting a Seollal, Korean Lunar New Year, event next week. It will be held on Monday (Feb 16th) for Reception to Year 3 and Tuesday (Feb 17th) for Year 4 to Year 9. To boost the Seollal spirit, we would be very grateful to see as many students as possible wearing their ‘Hanbok’ (traditional Korean clothes). If your children have a Hanbok, please send it with them on the morning of the event. Thank you in advance.
