What we will be learning this week:
Math: This week in math we will learn how to measure and convert measurements. The units we will be working with include millimeters, centimeters, meters, kilograms, milliliters, and liters. We will learn this skill through practical application. Practice measuring items at home and bring these measurements in to share with the class!
Continue working on your multiplication tables at home. We want to master up until the 6's in the next two weeks!
Literacy: This week in Literacy we will learn how to express our views about a book by supporting our opinions with specific details from the text. We will share the book reviews we wrote in class last week in order to practice our speaking and listening skills. We will also learn the difference between plural and possessive nouns.
IPC: This week in IPC we will learn about what pirates ate at sea during long journeys. We will also learn about a food from around the world and present our findings to the class. We will work on using our research skills in the classroom and in the computer lab.
DON'T FORGET TO CONTINUE WORKING ON YOUR FOOD SCIENCE EXPERIMENT AT HOME. THE DUE DATE IS MONDAY, JANUARY 26TH. CONTINUE WORKING ON THE WRITE-UP AT HOME. Remember, you may make a poster, make a video, make a flipchart, or make something on the computer. You choose how you present your scientific findings!
Spelling: As Spelling City has been working so successfully in many classes in the school, we have purchased an upgrade from a free to a premium license. This allows students to do even more using this website to build their spelling and vocabulary skills. It also allows me to keep track of their progress.
Because the site is more personalized, the way to access it has changed. Each student will now have a username and password to login with at spellingcity.com. This information was sent home last week.
This week three practice assignments have been set. Once you login, you will see a green and blue box that says "Assignments Due". This week they are "Sentence Writing Practice", "MatchIt Sentences", and "Word-O-Pillar", Because you can write your sentences online, you no longer need to keep a spelling journal unless you still want to practice your words this way.
