What we will be learning this week:
Math: This week in math we will continue learning how to measure and convert measurements. The units we will be working with include millimeters, centimeters, meters, kilograms, milliliters, and liters. We will learn this skill through practical application by estimating the weights of different foods. Later in the week we will solve word problems about measurements.
Here is a fun application to use to play around with measuring weight:

Continue working on your multiplication tables at home. The more you practice, the easier they will become! Use these online flashcards to practice the times table you are on in class: http://www.multiplication.com/games/play/quick-flash-ii
Literacy: This week in Literacy we will learn about the features of non-fiction texts. These include: labels, keywords, captions, table of contents, charts, maps, headings, glossary, photographs, illustrations, and indexes. We will then use our knowledge to create our own non-fiction text about The Iron Man.
IPC: This week in IPC we will learn about traditional foods from around the world and present our findings to the class. Later in the week we will begin the technology tasks which will include learning about the importance of food design and presentation.
DON'T FORGET THAT WE WILL BE PRESENTING OUR AT-HOME FOOD SCIENCE EXPERIMENTS STARTING ON MONDAY, JANUARY 26TH. CONTINUE WORKING ON THE WRITE-UP ON THE WEEKEND. Remember, you may make a poster, make a video, make a flipchart, or make something on the computer. You choose how you present your scientific findings!
Spelling: This week in spelling we will learn how to spell words with -ough and -ought endings. Three practice assignments have been set. Once you login, you will see a green and blue box that says "Assignments Due". This week they are "Sentence Writing Practice", "Which Word? Definitions", and "SpeedySpeller".
Because you can write your sentences online, you no longer need to keep a spelling journal unless you still want to practice your words this way. Please let me know if you have trouble logging in so that I can help you at school.

Additional Announcements:
Dear Wolf, Fox, and Coyote Parents,
Year 4 will soon begin the technology tasks for their IPC unit, "What's on the Menu?" We will make bread, butter, jam, and salads. In order to complete these tasks, your child will need to bring a few supplies with them to school by next Tuesday. The supply list is as follows:
Earth: flour, mason jars with lids
Fire: salt, heavy whipping cream
Sky: dried yeast for making bread, lemon juice
Water: sugar, raisins
*Also needed for freezer jam is pectin. If you know where to get this, please let us know.
During the technology tasks, we will also need kitchen supplies such as cutting boards, small, medium, and large plastic bowls, and plastic tupperware containers. If you do not mind parting with one of these items for a week or two, it would greatly be appreciated.
Thanks for your support!
Miss Hannah, Miss Tonya, and Mr. Geoff
